We checked. It wasn’t Tanya. Barely.
Between travel schedules, ‘jobs’, and familial commitments, lovers of Sleepy Hollow Tanya and Mooch don’t always get the chance to watch an episode within the week after its initial broadcast. Fortunately, at least one of the pair does. Even more fortunately, the other of the pair is more than willing to guess wildly about what actually happened.
This week’s transcript was edited for space, and a very shouty aside about tomato availability.
The podcast may still occur, one of these days.
T: Hey o. When’re you free ?
M: Now until whenever. This thing is saying “You are consistent in your habits” – because otherwise what would be habits?
M: Hey, did you know that Myers and Briggs were both women?
T: Yup. I did know that. Are you taking that test? Poor you.
M: Not the official one, I just got bored while making dinner.
T: Well Isabel Briggs Myers was a Swarthmore grad. Did you know THAT?
M: No, I didn’t read that far on the Wikipedia page.
T: You missed out. So. Sleepy Hollow.
T: This episode is called ‘The Weeping Lady’. Any predictions? Any wishful thinking right off the bat?
M: Did you wind up weeping?
T: Me? I never weep. that is too delicate a word for what I do.
M: I need a gif for that.
T: Of me honk-crying? It ain’t pretty.
M: The best gifs never are. So I’ve seen none of the episode, but I did catch a glimpse of the word ‘wendigo’ in the next-week-on, so I would like to start by congratulating Sleepy Hollow on finally catching up to the first season of the X-Files.
T: #truth. Also Supernatural.
M: I need a viewer guide for that show – I’m sure I would enjoy some of it
T: Oh, you WOULD. You really really would. Funny story: Supernatural helped me survive Saudi Arabia.
T: Okay, not funny. But that’s what was on TV when I couldn’t sleep. Plus, Supernatural has a whole thing about pie. So I have to adore them.
M: A whole thing like the way Twin Peaks had a whole thing?
T: Not as much as Twin Peaks, no, but mentions. enough mentions and gifs that I like.
M: Pie gifs – the puns of the gif world.1 So: Sleepy Hollow! Predictions… Sounds like another monster-of-the-week, but I’ll guess we also get more of the Henry/Irving setup. Lessee: someone almost drowns, just like the weeping woman did just after she was weeping back in the day. Oo, and Reyes reveals some key piece of Mills’ lore, possibly concurrent with demonstrating that she’s a Power Player. Eh, now that I type all that I’m unconvinced.
T: Which part are you least convinced about?
M: The Reyes part, mostly. Oo, I know – Hawley is hanging around, and the writers clunkily shoehorn in Abbie becoming interested.
T: ::claps:: This is another “oh, only the principals are necessary” episode.
M: Bah, I say.
T: So no Reyes, no Irving, only a side-eye at Jenny.
M: Does Jenny get to be a character, or could her role have been served by a nameless extra?
T: Oh no, her bit is Jenny-specific. amazingly. But also jarringly.
M: Intriguing. Ly. We will come to that, then. But first – was Irving in last week’s episode? Or was his soul just metioned?
- Still have no idea what that means. -M ↵
