Résumé Builder: Tiffani-Amber Thiessen

Tiffani-Amber Thiessen played girl-next-door Kelly Kapowski on Saved by the Bell.
Saved by the Bell (Screen: NBC / Netflix)

Tiffani Amber-Thiessen played the most relatable character on Saved by the Bell: Kelly Kapowski. What has her career been like after Bayside?

Tiffani-Amber Thiessen played Kelly Kapowski, the girl next door on Saved by the Bell. She joined the show following the Miss Bliss season, sticking around until the Tori Scott season. Kelly returned to the fold for The College Years, and ultimately married Zack in Vegas.

Shameful confession time: I didn’t realize until this week that the writers probably came up with Kelly’s last name because, like, KAPOW!1 Why is this the case? Because there was a character named Muffin Sangria. Anyway, Kelly was the all-American teenage girl: cheerleader, super popular, and the on-again/off-again girlfriend of Zack Morris.

Recent Experience

Tiffani Thiessen (she has dropped the Amber) can currently be found on USA’s White Collar. Before that, she found herself starring in a number of series which didn’t go anywhere, unfortunately. Good Morning Miami, Fastlane, Two Guys and a Girl…nope, nope, and nope.

Other Roles

The major role Tiffani Thiesen landed was that of Valerie Malone, the closet bad girl and best friend of Brandon Walsh on Beverly Hills, 90210. Thiesen had the unenviable position of filling the void left by Shannen Doherty when she left the show after the fourth season. Although Valerie could not match in bitchiness2, Thiesen was able to hold her own on the series, staying with the show for five years.

Special Skills

Way back when, Tiffani-Amber Thiessen dated Brian Austin Green, who was one of the kids on the original pilot of Good Morning, Miss Bliss. Not really a special skill, but an amazing trivia tidbit.

Truly, no one could replace Doherty on BH 90210, but I thought Thiessen was great – more conniving than Brenda but also more sympathetic. And she was such a great enemy for Kelly, who became so cloyingly sweet in those later seasons.
